LARGE STILL LIFE SET UP IN MY STUDIO I live in Cleveland Heights, an inner-ring suburb of Cleveland, made up of mostly century old houses in a mature landscape setting. Each house is architecturally unique, typical of houses built during that time. There are a few main streets and many side streets that run between in different directions. This aspects became the basis for the feel of the visual arrangement for the still life. I limited my selection to vintage pottery I purchased on eBay. They are mostly earthy, natural colors along with some blues. The shapes of the pottery are variations on the basic functional forms of vases and pitchers, most devoid of any decorative elements. They vary in size, shape, color and placement. I paid close attention to the direction of light coming in from a north-facing window and to way the pottery objects overlapped to create visual shape and color interactions. Please come back to read and see more images that will show the development of the painting over time.
